Submissions have been made to the Prime Minister to look into regulating the kava industry in order to get better recognition from export markets.
Fiji Kava Council Chairman Ratu Josateki Nawalowalo said a submission was made last week to Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama, to look into regulating the industry, as it would mean the improvement in quality of kava which would then lead to the opening up of more export markets.
Nawalowalo said regulating the kava industry would also be ensuring better financial security for farmers.
Meanwhile efforts are being made to improve the kava industry after the Government recognised it’s potential as one of the key commodities that could lift export potential for the country.
