Schools should not turn a student away only because the student is unable to pay the school levy.

This warning comes from Education Minister Filipe Bole who said that he is wary of schools charging levies to school children.

Bole believes that the tuition fees given to the schools by the Ministry should be enough to cover school fees and other items levied by the schools.

He said a school should not turn a parent or student away if they are not able to pay the levy as it is against the Education Policy.

Bole said any school doing this will be simply ignoring his directive and can be taken to task for that.

The Minister said the levy issue should be solved at the school level with mutual agreement between the parents and the school.

However he said if a student is being sent home by a school for not paying the levy then the parents should contact their Education Office or the Ministry so that appropriate action can be taken.
