All students who travel in designated school buses should have received their bus fares to travel to school tomorrow from their respective schools this afternoon.
That is the directive from the government which disbursed funds to all schools around the country today as the government bus fare assistance programme comes into effect tomorrow.
However, Ministry of Transport Spokesperson Sainiana Waqainabete said if students have not received their bus fare today parents should be prepared to pay the morning fares.
Waqainabete said the school heads and management are also being urged to distribute the bus fares to students on a daily basis.
Fijivillage has received confirmation from students in Suva schools that they received their bus fares in envelopes from their teachers this afternoon and have been told not to spend it on anything else.
Meanwhile, In a memo sent out to all 57 bus operators in the country, Association General Secretary, Rohit Latchan said that basically there is no change to the current situation - bus drivers will collect fares from all students.
According to Latchan, the Association understands that Government will start disbursing money to students from today and their job is to ensure that all students make it to school on time.
