Students raised issues which they faced daily at the National Budget Consultation at Suva Grammar School yesterday.

The consultation was attended by the Attorney General and Minister for Finance, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

A Year 12 student of Saint Vincent College said their girls hostel was severely affected by Cyclone Winston and at least 85 girls are staying in two classrooms.

She said there was a real issue of overcrowding.

There was also a request made by a Year 13 student of Vashist Muni College if a bus shelter could be provided for students in the school.

She said students faced a big problem during rainy weather.

A Year 13 student of Naitasiri Secondary School also questioned how the government prioritises the distribution of resources to schools.

She said that although she is the only computer student, there were no computers in her school.

Minister for Finance, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says the government has a focused priority on education in Fiji.

Sayed-Khaiyum told students at the consultation that the government cannot do everything at once.

He says we need to priotise areas that will help us realise our full potential.

He also says the government will continue to grant free education in the 2017 National Budget and that all submissions made at the consultation will be taken into account.
