More than 1,000 students of 49 schools around the country can look forward to a brighter future as they received financial help to pursue their studies which they could not afford.

The assistance comes from the International Congress of Fiji-Indians based in Auckland, New Zealand, a group formed by Former Fiji-Indians after the 2000 coup in Fiji.

A businessman of Labasa and general secretary for Shiri Guru Nanak Khalsa Secondary School Charan Jeath Singh said altogether 1,076 needy students were interviewed and assisted during the organization’s visit to Fiji last week.

He said the secondary and tertiary schools in northern, western, eastern and central division received a sum of $110,840.

He said the distributing of these finances is very transparent where students and their parents are also told how much money has been given to the school committee.
