Students of Vatu-kaloko Junior Secondary School along with more than 60 employees of Fiji Water assisted the communities of Natalecake, Vadravadra and Wavuwavu in Ba in getting clean water.
A total of 130 filters were installed in each home in these three areas to help bring clean water.
The program is a part of FIJI Water's ongoing partnership with the US based NGO, Give Clean Water whose goal is to install 200,000 water filters in homes around Fiji over the next 10 years.
Give Clean Water founder and board chair Darryl Larson said that the company was thrilled to have Vatukaloko Secondary School students taking the lead in the installations.
He said that the youths were not only learning about the importance of clean water and hygiene, but also were empowered by the opportunity to be teachers and volunteers in a new community.
Since 2008, Give Clean Water has installed over 1,000 household water filters in communities and schools around Nadi and Ba.
Meanwhile, over the last 2 years the FIJI Water Foundation has donated more than FJD $120,000 toward the installation of 600 water filters in as many homes in the Ba area.
