An alarming number of students in the northern division were found to have problems with their hearing and sight.
Speaking to Fijivillage, Project HEAVEN Training Supervisor Tomasi Canuwale, said 4,718 students had either hearing or sight problems in the rural areas in the north.
Canuwale added most of these students are in primary school and the problem can be attributed to many things.
He said most of the students that had eye problems stayed in the rural areas and since they do not have access to good medical facilities, the problem will increase and could affect their education.
Canuwale believes an upgrade of medical services in the rural areas can help reduce the high number of students affected.
