About fifty students escaped with their lives earlier this afternoon after the bus they were travelling in caught fire in Volivoli Sigatoka.

Interim Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama who was on his way to Suva from Lautoka passed the accident scene five minutes after the bus caught fire.

Bainimarama confirmed to Fijivillage news that some students suffered minor injuries, mainly due to some of them jumping out of the burning bus.

Commodore Bainimarama then visited the students at the hospital and confirmed that some students have been traumatized by the accident and are currently being attended to by the hospital staff. He said the bus was completely destroyed.

Director Traffic, SSP Ramend Raj fire fighters and police officers are still at the scene and investigations are expected to now get underway.
