It is a tragic start to the second term school holidays as a 17 year old secondary school student of Nadroga died after she jumped from a moving truck.

Assistant Spokesperson, Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri said the deceased with four other students who were staying in the school hostel allegedly sneaked out of the hostel on Wednesday night.

Police allege that the five then made their way to Nadi, where it is further alleged that they consumed alcohol.

According to Inspector Sokomuri, the five then boarded a loading truck to come back to the school hostel in Sigatoka.

Police believe that all five were drunk and when they approached the school, they tried to stop the driver however he failed to do so.

The five than jumped out of the moving truck and the 17 year old girl sustained serious injuries.

She was taken to hospital however doctors pronounced her dead.

Police are awaiting the post mortem report.
