A form five student of a prominent school in Nausori appeared in the Suva Magistrates Court today charged with larceny.

It is alleged that on 31st August, the student who was drunk, forcefully entered a taxi and told the taxi driver to take him to Lami town.

The taxi driver got suspicious, refused to take the student and told him to get off the car.

The student did get off the car but stole the taxi driver's mobile phone worth $120 and it is alleged that he sold it for $15 to a fellow villager of Suvavou, Lami.

He was taken into custody on Tuesday and appeared in court and said that he had given the mobile to his grandmother.

He pleaded guilty to his charges but said he had no previous convictions of larceny.

The case has been adjourned to the 17th of September where police will have to confirm whether he has previous convictions or not.
