The gang rape of a 14 year old student in Vanua Levu is extremely shocking.

That is the concern from the Ministry of Education that the demeaning act of rape is costly, intolerable and unacceptable.

A statement from the Interim Minister Education, Filipe Bole states that girls and families who are affected by this grossly degrading experience will lead to depression and psychological and emotional trauma.

Bole said medical studies have proven that depression is more damaging to everyday health than chronic diseases such as arthritis, asthma and diabetes.

Bole has requested teachers and students with the opening of the school year only two weeks away that they have to be sympathetic and sensitive towards victims of rape who attend schools.

Girls are also warned to be extremely cautious.
