A class 5 student of Labasa drowned while he was swimming in a flooded creek in Qereqere, Labasa.
Assistant police spokesperson Atunaisa Sokomuri has confirmed that the victim was swimming with his other friends when he got swept away.
His body was found a few metres away.
Sokomuri has called on parents not to let their children swim in flooded rivers and streams.
