Strong winds hit Navua, river rising
Deuba resident Matai Akoula said the flying debris and corrugated iron sheets are posing a lot of danger for residents.
A tree has fallen across the main road along the Kings Road near Advanced College which has seen lanes closed.
Motorists are now being asked to be cautious when travelling along this area.
A resident, Shalen Deo Sharan said the tree is has fallen right across the road and this is affecting traffic flow.
Meanwhile, Navua resident Lavenia Bolabiu said that the river water level is continuously rising and the weather condition has deteriorated since morning.
Meanwhile, DISMAC Acting Director Pajiliai Dobui has revealed that they have set up 5 evacuation centres in Navua as the river is expected to burst its bank by midnight tonight.
According to Dobui, the 5 centres are the LDS church, Vashist Muni Primary, Rampur College, the Serua provincial office as well as Jokhan Primary School.
Dobui is calling for people to move now to these evacuation centres as the river level continues to rise.
