A strong wind warning is in force for Viti Levu, Beqa, Vatulele, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands as Tropical Cyclone Gene slowly moves away from the Fiji Group. The Gale force warning issued for Western Viti Levu has now been cancelled.

At around midnight, Tropical Cyclone Gene was located near 18 decimal 7 south, 175 decimal 0 east, or 200 Km West Southwest of Nadi and is moving Southwest at 15 kilometers per hour away from Fiji.

However, Nadi Weather Office Director Rajendra Prasad stresses that the effects of the cyclone will result in continuous heavy rain and flash flooding and flooding of rivers and creeks is expected today.
