Strong winds continue to affect the western and southwestern parts of the country.
The Nadi Weather Office said at around 7 o'clock this morning, Tropical Cyclone Funa was located 425km west-south-west of Nadi and moving southeast at 20km/hr. However, it does not pose a direct threat to Nadi.
Destructive storm force winds extend to about 90km and damaging gale force winds to about 280km from the cyclone centre.
Funa is expected to maintain its current intensity today as it continues on its southeast course for the next 12 to 18 hours before curving southwards.
The cyclone is still within Fiji waters southwest of Kadavu, which should be experiencing high winds and very high to phenomenal seas today.
Strong northerly winds with average speeds to 45 to 50 km/h with momentary gusts up to 80km/h will be experienced by the Yasawas, the Mamanuca group, western and southern Viti Levu, Kadavu, Vatulele, Beqa and nearby small islands.
Heavy rainfall is also expected and the flooding of low-lying areas is a possibility. Rough to very high seas are also expected and people are called on not to go out to sea.
A shopkeeper from Kadavu, Tevita Kama has confirmed that strong winds have caused minor damage to weak structures of some houses and trees.
The financial controller for the Shangri-La Fijian Resort on the Coral Coast, Nawal Deo has confirmed that strong winds have caused minor damages to trees and they have told all their guests to take precautions.
