Our reporters have confirmed that 20 teachers from Nasinu Secondary were gathered at the Nasinu Secondary School compound after walking off their jobs.

17 teachers remain at the Nasinu Secondary and most of the classes are going ahead at this stage.

At Nabua Secondary School only 4 students turned up for school today and out of 60 teachers, 14 have not turned up for work and these teachers have still not turned up by 3 this afternoon, the school management will deem them to be on strike.

At Tacirua Primary Schools, out of 10 teachers, 7 including the Head Teacher are on strike within the school premises, with only 3 teachers continuing classes as per usual.

The striking teachers have been allowed by school management to picket within the school compound.

The principal of Suva Grammar School, head teachers of Draiba Fijian School and at Veiuto Primary School have all confirmed they are awaiting word from the Ministry of Education after a number of FTA members walked away from their classrooms this morning.

At Suva Grammar, out of 80 teachers, 50 are members of the Fijian Teachers Association and have walked off their jobs.

When Village News visited the school this morning, police officers were present and when questioned about their presence, the officers confirmed that they were there to prevent teachers picketing in or around the school compound.

Suva Grammar officials have confirmed that mid year exams are continuing as scheduled despite the walk off.

At Draiba Fijian school 12 teachers have walked off their jobs out of the 17 teachers. However the striking Draiba teachers have been allowed to picket in their school staff room.

At Veiuto Primary school out of 27 teachers, 20 have walked off their jobs this morning.
