The Suva City Council is re-looking at it's expenditure levels, cutting down on unnecessary spending.
This after the council fell short of it's revenue target by 9 percent for the first four months this year.
SCC Special Administrator, Chandu Umaria said they have put in strict measures to control expenses.
Meanwhile, Umaria also said any defaulting ratepayer that owns a business or a taxi permit faces the likelihood of their license being revoked if they do not pay up rates owed to the Suva City Council.
The council is owed $12.8 million in rate arrears.
Meanwhile, the Suva City Council is expected to enter into a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Lands and other stakeholder’s in order to speed up the process of rate collection.
Out of the $12.8 million is being owed to the Council, more than seven million dollars is being owed by people living on Housing Authority land, as well as Ministry of Lands and the Native Land Trust Board land.
