Apart from the licensing of retailers, any person who deals with pesticides will have to meet strict criteria that will be set out under the proposed Pesticides Decree.
The Proposed Pesticides Decree which is expected to be gazetted soon will see stricter laws in place dealing with the sale, storage, use and disposal of Pesticides after Cabinet yesterday approved the Pesticides Decree 2010.
Minister for Primary Industries, Joketani Cokanasiga said that in the past they have seen people experimenting with the pesticides but this will now be a thing of the past.
The last time the Pesticides Act was reviewed was in 1971 and Cokanasiga said also included in the proposed Decree is the need for inspectors to monitor the sale of pesticides and the training of workers by employers to handle pesticides.
