Stowaway reoffender Nacani Bale Nakou was today sentenced to six months in prison after the court found him guilty of stowing away on a container ship to Australia.

This is Nakou's second stowaway offence.

The court heard that an offender, under the 1986 Marine Act, is liable for a $2000 fine or one year imprisonment but taking into account his recommitting the offence two months later, Magistrate Aminiasi Katonivualiku sentenced Nakou to jail time.

In March this year, Nakou along with a friend stowed away on a container ship bound for Australia and 20 days later upon arrival in Brisbane, port officials caught him and deported him only for him to do the same offence again on the 24th of May.
