The Interim Finance Minister has called on the SDL party and others to stop propagating the myth that he is planning to take over the native land.
While speaking on a special talkback show on Village yesterday afternoon, Mahendra Chaudhry said that native land is protected under the constitution and he is disappointed that indigenous Fijian landowners are being told that their land ownership is under threat.
While reacting to comments that he should not speak about native land because he does not have legitimate rights over the land, Chaudhry said consultations are being held with the stakeholders including the NLTB to resolve the long standing problem.
He said over the last 7 years, cane production has drastically dropped by 1 million tones and something needs to be done now.
