Stop exploiting the workers of Fiji.
Those were the words of the Wages Council Chairman Father Kevin Barr as workers in various sectors around the country look forward to an increased pay package with the new wage regulation coming into force from today.
Fr Barr said for far too long workers have been victims due to the ignorance of employers around the country.
The Wages Council is expected to discuss the possibility of increasing the fine for employers who breach the new wages order as the current fine is only $100.
Meanwhile, the Fiji Employers Federation is seeking clarification from the government as to why the full wage adjustment has been made for the Garment Industry which is coming into effect from today.
President Dixion Seeto said in February when the wage adjustment was deferred till July, the wage increments were also deferred in half.
Seeto added this formula should have been applied.
Garment Industry workers are to receive a 20% increase across the board.
