There is still no reply from Samoa, American Samoa and Tonga on Fiji's offer of assistance.

This has been confirmed by the Foreign Affairs Ministry.

Permanent Secretary, Sikeli Mataitoga earlier said they have a medical team on standby and are awaiting word from these countries on whether assistance is needed.

However, there are local initiatives and appeals for the survivors by the ANZ Bank, the Fiji Red Cross Society, Niranjans and USP and the Oceania Centre.

Meanwhile, the European Commission's humanitarian fund has given 150,000 Euros to the International Red Cross Federation for the tsunami survivors while Australia and New Zealand have stepped up relief efforts sending in plane loads of medical personnel and humanitarian aid to help.

A devastating earthquake and tsunami had struck Samoa, American Samoa and Tonga last Wednesday causing the deaths of 170 people and destroying everything in its path.
