There is still no confirmation on the rugby sponsorships for the Fiji Rugby Union, and FRU is refusing to comment on whether Digicel Fiji is the top contender to get the 7s and provincial rugby championship sponsorship.
Under Digicel Fiji’s previous contract with the FRU, Digicel had the option to match the offer of competitive bidders for the sponsorship of the national 7s team and the provincial championship.
Digicel exercised that option and handed the documents to FRU earlier this week.
We questioned FRU director responsible for sponsorships Baljeet Singh on what happens now as Digicel Fiji has matched the most competitive bid.
Singh said he cannot say anything as they are now seeking legal advice however he said the announcement is taking time as they have to make an informed decision.
We also asked Baljeet Singh whether any incentives like bonuses will be paid to the Fiji 7s players if they do well in the US and NZ tournaments.
Singh said there is no sponsor and they may work something out however he said the players have been told to play for the nation.
