The Mineral Resources Department has confirmed that they still do not have early tsunami warning equipment in Fiji as minor tremors have become obvious in Fiji waters.

Senior officials confirm the equipment will been funded by the Japan International Corporation Agency, however, due to the events of December 5th the funding has been put on hold.

Fiji now depends on the neighboring countries to provide them with information on early tsunami warning. It is unclear when the project will go ahead.

In a workshop last week in Nadi, senior seismologist Lasarusa Vuetibau revealed that it will be difficult to predict a tsunami when a powerful earthquake triggers in Fiji waters.

Meanwhile, slight tremors were felt by the residents of Tavua and Ba last night due to a minor earthquake.

The earthquake, measuring 3.8 on the richter scale was located 1 kilometer east of Ba town at 3 o'clock this morning. There were no reports of damages and no threats of a Tsunami.
