Stick to road rules
National Road Safety Council Chief Executive Akapusi Tuifagalele said while adverse weather conditions, like rain, do play a part in road accidents, drivers who have control of the vehicle should not take it lightly and speed.
LTA spokesperson Ratu Eroni Volavola said drivers need to stick to the road rules.
Two people died in Wainibuka, Tailevu, yesterday afternoon after the car they were in collided head on with a grader.
According to police, it was raining and the 35 year old driver together with a 20 year old passenger were coming towards Suva when the driver lost control of the vehicle and collided head on with a grader which was working on the highway.
The 20 year old passenger died instantly while the 35 year old driver who sustained serious head injuries was rushed to the CWM hospital where he passed away.
For the first quarter of this year, more than 3,000 people have been booked for speeding while the road death toll is now 13 compared to 21 for the same period last year.
