The Poverty Eradication Unit is trying to find the real definition of poverty in the country so that steps are taken to assist those who are in real need.

Director, Dr. Tokasa Leweni agrees that between 2000 to 2008 government spent $1.5 billion for activities and programs driven towards poverty alleviation however poverty continues to rise as government funded programs and activities have not been sufficient to effectively address poverty.

She said latest surveys show over 40% people in the country live below the poverty line.
