Police are expected to liaise with the Land Transport Authority to step up the inspection of the maintenance checklist for all buses after another bus caught fire in Laucala Beach last night.
Director Traffic SSP Mahesh Mishra said inspections must be stepped up as lives are being put at risk on public transportation.
About 20 passengers on board a bus were lucky to escape injuries after the vehicle caught fire near RB Centerpoint in Laucala Beach last night.
Eyewitnesses told Fijivillage that they saw passengers jumping out of the bus as it came to a halt while the engine section was up in flames at around 10pm last night.
Chief fire officer Tupou Saubulinayau said the fire started from the engine section of the bus and it is believed to have been caused by an electrical fault as investigations continue.
The bus sustained 10% damages before the fire was extinguished.
