Former Australian sevens team play-maker James Stennard makes a return to bolster the thunderbolts campaign at the Hong Kong 7s tournament this weekend.

Coach Michael O'Connor said Stennard has ample of Sevens experience having won a silver medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games and captaining the side that won the London Sevens the same year.

Injuries to Jordan Tua-pou and Peter Lee have forced the changes, prompting call ups for Stennard and the uncapped Simon Morahan.

Australia will face South Africa, Wales and Argentina in pool play.

Meanwhile, Fiji will play Hong Kong at 9.06pm this Friday in the first match.

Fiji's second pool match is against Spain at 2.06pm on Saturday and Canada at 10.54pm.

The cup quarter finals start 3.48pm on Sunday, cup semis kicks off at 8.06pm and the cup final will be played at 11pm.
