The status quo cannot remain and the retail rates for telecommunication services must be reduced.
These are the words of Commerce Commission Chairman Dr. Mahendra Reddy as the public awaits reductions in mobile and landline call rates after the reduction in interconnectivity rates announced by the Commission earlier this month.
However, Dr. Reddy said Telecom Fiji Limited, Digicel and Vodafone must be given time to review their retail rates.
And after TFL raised concerns on the reduction in interconnectivity rates saying that they needed further clarifications, Dr. Reddy stresses that the Commission’s decision is final and if telecom providers are not happy, they must realize that extensive research and consultations were conducted before they reached their decision.
Meanwhile, TFL, Digicel and Vodafone are still reviewing their retail call rates and say public announcements will be made when they have finalized everything.
