More money was spent by people to buy food items last month.

The Bureau of Statistics shows that higher price were recorded for bakery products, wheat products, meat, fish, fruits, fruit juice, yaqona, dairy products, tea, cocoa and vegetable which is an increase of 1.3%.

Private housing rent and kerosene increase by 0.1% while 0.5% increase in the prices of electrical and non electrical appliances, crockery, jewelry, travel and sports goods was recorded.

People who bought new and second hand vehicles, services and parts had to pay more as these items saw an increase of 0.9%.

Prices for clothes and shoes also increased by 0.2% however a decrease of 0.1% was recorded for toiletries and laundry goods.

The inflation rate for last month stood at 3.9% compared to 6.8% in 2008.
