A state of disaster has been declared for the Northern and Eastern Division.
The decision was made after preliminary reports showed that the Northern Division has received extensive damages and close to 50 homes were destroyed as well as root crops.
DISMAC's Coordinator Anthony Blake said the National Disaster Council met this morning with the President and Prime Minister and they were briefed on the damage reports received from the northern and eastern division.
Blake said they are also concerned about the eastern division as Hurricane Tomas heads in that direction.
Blake said the Prime Minister has also instructed the deployment of the navy to distribute relief supplies to affected areas.
