Star-Studded Fiji 7s Team For World Cup
The Melrose Cup which is currently sitting at the FRU House and will be up for grabs again in Dubai next month and Fiji is now putting a star-studded team together for its successful defence.
The National 7s Chairman of Selectors, Ilivasi Tabua confirms that the release for a number of top players who are playing abroad is now being sorted out and they should be in the country later this month.
Tabua said the team to the World Cup will be totally different than the win that will play in Wellington and San Diego.
And there is also hope for Bua flyer and France based, Rupeni Caucau as he could be considered for next month's World Cup based on his fitness test result from his club, Agen.
Fiji has only managed to win the World Cup title in 7s rugby - we don’t have a world title in any other sport. The 7s World Cup wins even resulted in public holidays and nationwide celebrations in 1997 and 2005.
Tabua said this is the reason why their game plan has to be diverse and a major advantage would be taking the strongest team ever to Dubai, which is different from the one already studied by other overseas coaches.
The World Cup 7s will kick off on the 5th of next month and Fiji is pooled with France, USA and Georgia.
