Another stand-off looms between the interim government and the Trade and Public Sector Unions in the country who have expressed strong opposition to the announcement by the PSC today that all civil servants hired from this month, will be on a three year contract.
Fiji Public Service Association and Confederation of Public Sector Unions Industrial Advisor Nirbhay Singh said the PSC is in breach of the Service Agreement.
The Fiji Trades Union Congress General Secretary, Felix Anthony said the Chairman of the PSC does not have the powers to make such decisions on his own and they will strongly oppose this move.
The Fiji Islands Council of Trade Unions General Secretary Attar Singh also said the PSC has not acted in good faith and they will have consultations with other affiliates on this matter before deciding their next step. The Fiji Teachers Union and the Fijian Teachers Association have expressed similar sentiments.
Earlier today PSC Chairman, Rishi Ram announced that all civil servants hired from this month will be on three year contracts and the automatic pay increments through COLA for civil servants will definitely be a thing of the past now.
