The Fiji Media Council is confident that their views will be taken into account before a draft on the proposed Media Promulgation is drawn up.
Council Chairman Darly Tart said he received a letter yesterday notifying him that the Media Council will be consulted on the proposal which includes the formation of an Independent Media Tribunal.
Tarte said they will also allow further developments to take place regarding the proposed promulgation before the council will decide its next step.
Meanwhile, Fiji Times Editor Netani Rika said that there is little that can be done at the moment.
The proposed Media Promulgation will see all existing laws pertaining to the Media, its freedom and restrictions professional standards and code of ethics incorporated into it with the establishment of an independent tribunal and will be an avenue where people will be able to appeal the Fiji Media Council's decision on complaints.
