A leading NGO in the country has called on government to take a friendly approach to the issue of squatters in the country saying that they need more time.
People's Community Network's Father Kevin Barr who carries out surveys in squatter settlements, said that the approach by government to evict squatters from government owned land needs more discussions.
Father Barr said that though there are some squatters that abuse land left idle, majority are genuine and have no other means of housing.
Father Barr added that in some cases squatters have the money to move to proper housing, there not much affordable options.
Meanwhile, in a statement, Lands Ministry Permanent Secretary Lieutenant Colonel Neumi Leweni stressed that the government land being occupied by squatter settlements has seen government lose revenue.
He stressed that consultations are being done at the moment.
