Around 200 families living in squatter settlements in Laqere and Nadera face eviction within the next few months as the Nasinu Land Purchasers Cooperative Limited has initiated legal action against them.
The Cooperative owns the land in Laqere Stage 10 and at Y.M Hanif road in Nadera where these squatters are now living.
While initiating the legal action to acquire the eviction notices, the Cooperative states that the Ministry of Squatter re-settlement had already allocated land for these squatters in Sasawira, 10 miles, and the squatters had agreed to move to the vacant land after the final school term last year.
However, the squatters are now refusing to move.
The Nasinu Land Purchasers Cooperative Limited is executing the legal action has it intends to develop the land in question for housing and other purposes and to construct a road to connect to Ratu Dovi Road.
The cases against the 200 squatters is being done in parts as the Cooperative said it would be expensive and time consuming to try and evict all the squatters at one time.
The case is currently in its preliminary stages before the Civil High Court in Suva.
