As students are gearing up for the first school term to begin from tomorrow, many parents living in squatter settlements are calling on the Interim government to provide some kind of assistance as they are facing hardship in sending their children to school.
A single mother of three living in Kilikali Squatter Settlement, who does not want to be named, told Village News, that her two daughters have dropped out from school as she cannot afford to buy their school items.
Grasscutter Ram Pal of Vatuwaqa Squatter Settlement said prices have gone up for everything and it would be good if government helps.
Joana Bale of Narere Squatter Settlement said her husband is a casual worker and with his income of only $80 per week it is difficult to send all her 4 children to school.
A form 5 student Rima Chand living in the Vatuwaqa Squatter Settlement said she is the lucky one who will be going to school come tomorrow while her younger brothers might have to stay back.
