Those staying at the Muanivatu Squatter Settlement in Vatuwaqa are expected to ask the Suva City Council for an extension on the eviction deadline given for the end of this month.

This has been confirmed by ECREA's Semiti Qalowasa, who said there hasn't been any response from the Director of Lands, if another piece of land has been found to resettle those staying in Muanivatu.

Qalowasa said the eviction deadline is at the end of this month and the fact that no one has made any attempts to move, is not a direct defiance of the notice, but the fact is that most of those living in Muanivatu don't have the funds or another place to move as most are low income earners.

Qalowasa said they will try to schedule a meeting with the Lord Mayor next week, to try to get an extension on the eviction deadline, which ends at the end of this month.
