A storming opening half hour created the platform for South Africa’s 28-8 win over Australia in an ill-tempered Rugby Championship match this morning.

The Springboks scored three tries, one each to hooker Adriaan Strauss, fullback Zane Kirchner and wing Willie le Roux.

The match flared up several times with four yellow cards issued, two each to both side.

The Springboks were chasing a bonus point to keep in touch with the competition leaders, the All Blacks, who play Argentina at 10.40am today.
