Springbok 7s coach Paul Treu's hopes of defending his IRB World Sevens Series title may be dashed, but he has now set his sights on a prize that has eluded him for far too long - the Hong Kong 7s.

Treu's charges may not have set the world alight in the four tournaments this far in the IRB Sevens series, but finally overcame their own bogey team in beating Fiji 12-7 in the Plate final at the USA 7s in Las Vegas.

The young and new comers in the South African 7s team worked so well that the Boks swamped England 27-14 in the Plate semis and then held out against Fiji to gain a massive boost of confidence, which was dented by four losses to the South Sea Islanders in as many tournaments.

Treu's next goal is to see if he can lift the young side to win the Hong Kong Sevens - the jewel in the IRB Sevens crown and a tournament the Springboks have never won. The Hong Kong 7s tournament will be held next month.
