Three sports organizations, including Cricket Fiji, Basketball Fiji and Fiji Swimming have been awarded Australian government grants to assist them train more local coaches and expand participation in their respective sports to schools around the country.
Speaking to Fijivillage while presenting the cheques today, Australian High Commissioner James Batley said the grant will help increase the community participation in sports in Fiji.
Cricket Fiji received $11,000, Basketball Fiji got $5,100 and Fiji Swimming got $5,300.
The grant is part of the $26 million support for grass roots and higher level sports in the Pacific, a decision that was reached at the Pacific Islands Leaders Forum Meeting that was held in Cairns last month.
