The spirit of the 2014 Coca Cola Games came alive in Suva today as more than 500 students of Gospel High School greeted the games torch with cheers and excitement.

Receiving the torch for the school was sprinter Aaron Powell.

Powell said it is a great honor for him to be selected as one of the runners and it will be one of the highlights for him as an athlete.

Powell added that holding the games torch in front of the teachers and the students comes with a responsibility and the drive to do his best for the school during the Coca Cola Games.

Powell is one of the favorites to win the Intermediate Boys 100 metres after clocking one of the fastest times during the Suva Zone Two last month.

His time was 10.79 seconds.

The 17-year old is expected to front up against Jacob Waqanivalu of International School Suva who won the Suva Zone One Inter boy’s 100 metres with a time of 10.77 seconds.

Meanwhile,   the torch is currently at Ballentine Memorial School and it will leave for Kadavu tonight.

The Coca Cola Games will be held on the 25th and 26th of this month.
