Fijian born Wallaby in waiting Henry Speight is finally within sight of a Wallabies call up after years of red tape surrounding his eligibility.

Speight will be free to play for Australia in eight days’ time, and he is looking to stake his claim when he returns from injury to play for Canberra Vikings this weekend.

Under IRB eligibility rules, Speight had to live in Australia for three years before being available for Wallabies selection.

He arrived in Canberra to join the Brumbies at the end of 2010, but a brief playing stint in New Zealand triggered his eligibility and he was forced to wait four years before getting his chance with the Wallabies.

In an interview with ABC Sports last night, Speight says he is ready for the call up and he will do whatever it takes to stake his claim on the Wallabies jersey.

If all goes well for the 26-year-old, he is expected to make his debut against Argentina next week.

Meanwhile, the Wallabies will take on the Springboks at 10.05pm Saturday while the All Blacks will play Argentina at 7.35pm.
