The 2000 coup leader who is serving his life sentence in Naboro, George Speight was in tears yesterday as he received 10 cartons of books donated by the 2007 Leadership Fiji graduates to the prison library.
Speight who looks after the Naboro Maximum Security library thanked the graduates on behalf of the prison officers and inmates, saying that this would assist many inmates who are now learning to read.
George Speight also acknowledged the prison reforms that have seen them having a new theme that the prison for them at this stage is a residence of hope.
Last year, the Leadership Fiji team visited the prison and the library. They met up with George Speight who had been put in charge of the library. Leadership Fiji member Amelia Sawau said Speight had asked for books for the library.
The Leadership Fiji Class of 2007 then conducted a book drive and yesterday turned up at the Naboro Maximum Security Prison with ten cartons of books.
Sawau said she was honored to be part of the team that visited the prisoners yesterday.
