Speeding has topped the traffic offences committed by drivers this year, as over 13,000 drivers have been booked so far.

Director Traffic SSP Mahesh Mishra said figures released by the Fiji Police Force shows that between January till Friday last week, 13,277 were booked for speeding, 1,469 drivers for careless driving, 593 for drunk driving, 1,122 for seat belt offences and over 12,521 drivers were booked for other traffic offences.

Drivers have been warned that there is no drop policy on speeding, careless driving and drink and drive offenders, as they will be taken to task.

There have been 28 fatal accidents so far this year compared to 41 for the same period last year.
