Speeding Cause Of Accidents
National Road Safety Statistics have 14 deaths caused by speeding and losing control of the vehicle, 3 from improper overtaking, 3 from drink driving and 6 from the pedestrians being at fault.
According to the statistics, there are 28 fatalities in total as at June 2008 compared to 26 for the same period last year.
Of the 28 cases, the National Road Safety Council has recorded that 6 have occurred in Sigatoka, with 3 each in Suva, Lami and Nadi, 2 each in Nausori, Navua, Lautoka, Seaqaqa and Savusavu and 1 each in Nasinu, Ba and Rakiraki.
National Road Safety Council Executive Director Akapusi Tuifagalele said the three recent head on collision deaths are a worry adding drivers need to take responsibility.
A 29 year old woman died yesterday morning after the private car she was travelling in, collided head on with another car which had veered onto her lane in Pacific Harbour, while an accident in Malaqereqere, Sigatoka claimed two lives while another passenger was rushed to the Lautoka Hosiptal.
