A special church service will be held in Taveuni today to commemorate the life of Rev Ragho Prasad, the first Taveuni Islander to be ordained a Minister of the Methodist Church in Fiji from the Indian Division.

Head of the Indian Division, Rev Wiliam Lucas said the service will also officially name the Methodist Induan Church in Naqara "Rev Prasad Memorial Church which will be unveiled by Rev Prasad's widow, Meresiana.

Rev Lucas said this is part of the project by the Indian Division in Fiji to keep alive the history and legacy of pioneer ministers.

Rev Prasad died at the age of 62 while he was head of the church at the Sigatoka Methodist Circuit in 1994.
