A special meeting is underway at the Health headquarters where senior health officials are trying to confirm whether there is a dengue outbreak in the country and which areas are affected.

Interim Health Minister Dr Jiko Luveni confirmed this morning that health authorities have started their awareness campaigns around the country following a suspected dengue outbreak in the Central/Eastern and Western Division.

She said about 53 suspected cases of dengue fever were recorded until last Friday in various Health Centers and Hospitals in the Central/Eastern and Western Division.

Dr Luveni added these cases were not serious as health officials are expected to get the latest information today.

She has called on people to take precautions and take good care of themselves.

If you have a flu and fever, see a doctor, stay home and have a good bed rest. She said people should also take a lot of fluids.

Dr. Luveni has advised people to destroy all mosquito breeding places in their compound.
