David Villa scored the only goal as Spain beat neighbours Portugal 1-0 to set up a World Cup quarterfinal showdown against Paraguay.

Spain play some quick passes in the 63rd minute on the edge of the box, with Andres Iniesta at the heart of it, and after Xavi's flick put David Villa in on the left, his first shot was saved by the goal keeper and his second hits the underside of the bar and bounced on the right side of the line for Spain to qualify for the quarter-final.

Earlier this morning, Paraguay won the first penalty shootout of the 2010 World Cup when they beat Japan 5-3 to reach the last eight for the first time, and clinch a quarterfinal.

Paraguay scored all five of their penalties after a disappointing match had finished goalless at the end of extra time.

But Paraguay's joy was Japan's agony as Yuichi Komano's spot kick brushed the crossbar and flew over as the Blue Samurai's tournament came to an end.

Looking at the Quarter-finals, Brazil will now play Netherlands on Saturday morning at 2am and at 6.30am Uruguay will take on Ghana.

Argentina will play Germany at 2am on Sunday morning and at 6.30am Paraguay will face Spain.
