South Africa defeated the All Blacks 7s 40-21 in the cup final of the USA 7s in scintillating fashion to bag their first win in the world sevens series after two years.

The Springboks 7s team outclassed the Kiwis in a one sided final after running in six tries to three.

Branco Du Preez was the star for the South Africans as he scored 18 points.

South Africa last won a cup title in 2011 in London after beating Fiji.

Coach Paul Treu said hard work has paid off for them.


Treu added Branco Du Preez really made the difference for his side.


Halfback Paul Delport said they just want to improve from their last outing in New Zealand two weeks ago.


South Africa's win means they become the fifth side to win a Series title this season, highlighting the huge competitiveness of the tournament right now. 

Meanwhile, Fiji has finished fourth in the USA 7s after losing to Samoa in the third place playoff 36 31 in sudden death.

Fiji earlier lost to the All Blacks 7s in their extra time semifinal clash 19-14 after David Raikuna scored the winning try.
 
In the shield final Australia thrashed Uruguay 41-0 and France beat Argentina in the Bowl final 17-12 while Canada beat Scotland 22-5 in the plate final.

Fiji is now fourth on the standings with 66 points while New Zealand extends their lead at the top with 96 points, South Africa is second with 73 points and Samoa is third with 71 points.

The next leg of the IRB series is at Hong Kong from the 22nd to the 24th of next month.
